IWA Biofilms 2019 Conference: Biofilms and their interaction with surfaces
As microbial biofilms are relevant in several areas, this conference aims to provide a meeting point for scientists to to present their most recent data and exchange novel information on basic and applied aspects of biofilms. We also expect to provide a meeting point for Latin-american scientists working on biofilm topics.
The multidisciplinary program will cover several subjects and will be a mix of basic and applied topics. Five sessions will cover the following topics:
- Fundamentals in biofilm-surface interaction
- Biofilms in biomedical devices
- Biofilm modelling (metabolic, reactors)
- Microbial Ecology & biofilms (EPS, marine biofilms, drinking water distribution systems, sampling and quantification methodologies)
- Water, air and soil: Using biofilms for industrial processes, water treatment and bioremediation
We solicit research reports that address the entire range of above-mentioned topics. Contributions are sought from fundamental studies, applied studies, and interdisciplinary studies on fundamental and applied aspects. Example topics:
- Biofilms and interaction with surfaces (biocorrosion, biofouling, membranes, bioleaching, bio-electrochemical systems, biofilms in medical devices)
- Water and wastewater treatment (wastewater, drinking water, and mining wastewater)
- Biofilm modelling (metabolic, reactors)
- Biofilm ecology (EPS, bioremediation, marine biofilms, drinking water distribution systems, sampling and quantification methodologies).
- Biofilms as hosts for pathogenic organisms
Management and control of unwanted biofilms
